Psalm 32:5-7

I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.  Selah

Therefore let everyone who is godly
offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
they shall not reach him.
You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.  Selah

It is easy for us to go through our lives not acknowledging our sin as sin.  We do a lot of things to not have to acknowledge our sin.  We ignore it, cover it up, pretend it doesn’t exist, rationalize it and justify it.  We even categorize our sins into “little” and “big” sins to make ourselves feel better.  For example, we call something a “little white lie” when in the eyes of the Lord a lie is a lie.  The consequences may be different, but the sin is the same.

It is only through acknowledging our sin we can confess it to the Lord.  The Lord already knows every sin we have committed, are committing or will commit and He loves us in spite of them.  But, He still wants us to acknowledge them before Him and seek His forgiveness.  If we are to call ourselves followers of Christ, we need to honor His sacrifice on the cross and confess our sins, seek His forgiveness and repent.  It all starts with acknowledging our sin as sin.  Spend some time with the Lord asking Him to help you acknowledge the sin in your life, seek His forgiveness and repent.

Gracious Father, You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.  We thank You for Your sacrifice and honor You by confessing our sins before You today.  We ask for Your forgiveness and we choose to turn from our sinful ways today.  Thank You that your grace is sufficient enough to cover all our sins.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
